Its range is the talk of TikTok and legendary within the hair industry, so whenever Olaplex launches a new product, team My Imperfect Life listens. Hence why one of our beauty experts had to get her hands on the newest addition to provide you with a thorough Olaplex Volumizing Blow Dry Mist review.

The best Olaplex products are known for their bond-building abilities, thanks to patented technology that works to repair damage in each strand of hair. And while the No. 3 treatment is the at-home hero of the hour, the brand has several great styling products on offer to help you build a haircare routine for damaged hair—including this newbie.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest launch from the brand, Volumizing Blow Dry Mist, from its key ingredients to what it's like to use and how it actually performs, according to a beauty expert.

My hair is color-treated, naturally curly, prone to dryness, and ever so slightly fine. I frequently change how I style it, washing with the best shampoos for curly hair one week to a sleek DIY '90s blow-dry the next. My hair has a decent amount of natural volume, though when I blow dry it straight it can sit a little flat at the roots, so I may add a bit of volumizing spray to counter this. Because of its natural curl and dryness, I also look to add moisture and smoothness when styling my hair in this way, as well as shielding it from humidity.

First and foremost, the Olaplex Volumizing Blow Dry Mist contains the same patented bond-building ingredient that is found across the entire range. As a spray, it’s not going to give you as much reparative action as the treatment or No. 8 Mask, but it’s a feature that’s unique to the brand all the same.

The other ingredients in the formula that the brand calls out are pea peptides, which work to shield your hair from humidity, and polymers and jackfruit polysaccharides to smooth and hold, promising to do so without any crunch. I'd also note that it smells great—the same as the Olaplex Dry Shampoo—slightly sweet but not overpoweringly so.

The first time I used it, I focused mine at the roots because this is the only area where my hair falls flat (although the strands aren’t particularly thick, I have quite a lot of hair with natural body). However, it’s designed to be used all over as an all-rounder first and foremost, then more is applied for a volume-boosting hit. The instructions from the brand are as follows.

My hair needs a fair bit of moisture, so I layered the mist on top of a couple of other of my go-to products—which those following an Olaplex routine for curly hair will also do. But for those who keep styling products to a minimum because they are worried about weighing their hair down, this formula is very fluid and the spray bottle itself dispenses an ultra-fine mist. It's not completely undetectable on the hair, as I felt it created a little texture to give that root lift, but it's not sticky or at all heavy feeling.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that I was blown away by this product—though I'd caveat this by saying I try a lot of hair care products as part of my job!—but I think that existing Olaplex fans and those who like to invest in their haircare products will enjoy this newcomer.

While I did initially think its name suggested more of a root-lifting volumizing spray, the product is more of an all-rounder that smooths, holds, and adds a little volume and body. It’s not particularly moisturizing, so bear in mind that you’ll need to get this from other steps in your haircare and styling routine if your hair has a level of dryness. I'm looking forward to continuing to experiment with it in my routine.

The price tag is in more premium territory, no question, but because the mist is so fine I think the product would last a fair amount of time. All in all, this is a nice addition to the Olaplex line-up that I’ll definitely continue to use when blow drying my hair at home.
